Featherweight: up to 77 kg (- 169.76 lbs)

Lightweight: up to 85 kg (~ 187 lbs)

Middleweight: up to 100 kg (~ 220 lbs)

Light Heavy: up to 115 kg (~ 254 lbs)

Heavyweight: over 115 kg (254 lbs +)

Open-Weight: unrestricted

– Women’s divisions:

Lightweight: up to 65 kg (~ 143 lbs)

**For Jr. Division Age Details**

Participants shall be boys/girls born between 2007 (18 years old in 2025) and 2012 (13 years old in 2025) and who are registered to the Sumo Federation of each participating country.

Middleweight: 60 kg and over and under 75 kg

Heavyweight: 75 kg and over

– Male Juniors divisions:

Lightweight: Under 80 kg

Middleweight: 80 kg and over and under 100 Kg

– Kids Division: Brackets will be determined based on age and size to ensure fair and competitive matches.

– Masters Division: A first in SoCal Open history, for male adults over 40, potentially divided into 5-year age brackets depending on participant numbers

Mission Bay Music presents The Meraki Concerts Series 2025

Mission Bay High School Announces the Second Season of the Meraki Concert Series

SAN DIEGO, CA – Mission Bay High School is proud to present the second season of the Meraki Concert Series, a premier jazz music experience produced entirely by students in the school’s Music Business Program. Running from January through May, this unique work-study initiative provides students with hands-on experience in the business side of the music industry, preparing them for future careers in event production, artist management, and live music promotion.

The Meraki Concert Series is a student-driven effort, with Mission Bay High School (MBHS) students overseeing all aspects of event production, including venue management, artist booking, marketing, sponsorship outreach, and day-of operations. In collaboration with Meraki Event Space and Lounge and the San Diego-Yokohama Sister City Society, this year’s series will feature a stellar lineup of acclaimed and emerging jazz artists.

“Through the Meraki Concert Series, we are not just presenting music – we are creating an immersive experience, crafted through the dedication and talent of our students,” said Jean-Paul Balmat, director of the Mission Bay High School Music Program. “This series reflects our commitment to fostering young talent, engaging our community, and celebrating the diverse world of jazz.”

Spring 2025 Meraki Concert Series Lineup:

  • February 20 – Euphoria Brass Band
  • March 20 – Eric Wesling Quartet
  • April 17 – Holly Hofmann
  • May 22 – Peter Sprague and Leonard Patton

Each evening will begin with a special performance by a Mission Bay High School ensemble, showcasing the rising stars of the school’s acclaimed music program.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for reservations-only dining, with headlining performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. The concerts will take place at Meraki Event Space and Lounge, located at 1648 30th St., San Diego, CA.

Tickets & Dining Experience:

  • General Admission: $25 per person (available at merakiconcerts.com)
  • Dining Packages: Starting at $70, includes admission, reserved seating, and a curated dinner experience featuring an appetizer and entrée inspired by the season’s finest ingredients.

Proceeds from ticket sales and dining will directly support Mission Bay High School’s nonprofit music program, ensuring students continue to have access to enriching educational and performance opportunities.

San Diego’s strategic geographic location has been key to making our economy prosper. Connectivity has been critical to our region’s global competitiveness, attracting a total of $15.6 billion of foreign investment in five years due to its top life sciences market, tech scene, presence of distinguished universities and quality of life. To increase our region’s global engagements with international cities, San Diego has established sixteen Sister Cities Societies in which cultural, educational, business, and technical exchanges take place. San Diego’s first Sister City Agreement was signed in 1957 with Yokohomo, Japan and have enjoyed fruitful ties since their affiliation. This has tremendously enriched the cultural life of residents in both cities through numerous exchanges of arts, culture, commerce and education over the decades. As a first step in building a long- term relationship, San Diego International Sister Cities Association has designated Amboseli, Kenya as a “Friendship City” to develop a multilateral cooperation. The Friendship Cities program is a way for the Sister Cities to initiate a ceremonial relationship with foreign municipalities to foster increased cooperation and communication such as the exchange of correspondence between Elected Officials and business leaders regarding areas of mutual interest. Join us on March 9 for a conversation on fostering international ties throughout the San Diego Sister Cities Association by supporting cultural, educational, and economic relationships. Speakers will also share an overview of San Diego’s Sister City relationships with Yokohama, Friendship Cities program with Amboseli, Kenya, and the stories of many other cities that have collaborated with the organization in planning and implementing cooperative activities and exchanges.

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AFFAIRS FORUMS

 

Through the International Business Affairs Forums, the Chamber provides business leaders with the essential knowledge and resources needed to thrive within the binational marketplace. Attendees also have the opportunity to build and strengthen new relationships, exchange ideas, and debate policies that are relevant to the Cali-Baja business community. Meetings are held monthly, at the San Diego Regional Chamber office or in Tijuana

THE FILM: Directed by J.R. Heffelfinger

“8:15 Hiroshima | From Father to Daughter” is a 51 minute documentary/narrative hybrid film (directed by J.R. Heffelfinger) based on AkikoMikamo‘s book “8:15 – A True Story of Survival and Forgiveness from Hiroshima” (the original title was “Rising from the Ashes” and is also available in Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Polish, and German).

The film won the Audience Award at the 2020 Nashville Film Festival (Oscar qualifying film festival) and was an official selection at the Nashville FF, Association of Asian Studies Film Expo, and Hiroshima International Film Festival.

It illustrates Akiko’s father Shinji’s actual experiences of Hiroshima as a teen at only 3/4 mile from the epicenter of the first atomic bomb explosion over mankind in 1945, and his miraculous survival, love for humanity, and message for world peace, also revealing a shocking event in modern days, discovered in NYC.

Produced in the USA in 2020, Cinescope size, Dolby 5.1ch surround sounds, filmed with a 5K camera in NYC and Hiroshima, in English with Japanese subtitles (reenactments are in Japanese with English subtitles).

CJSCN Fall Workshop in San Diego – Connecting Sister City Youth With Your Community

In cooperation with the Consulates General of Japan in San Francisco and in Los Angeles, CJSCN is proud to announce the 2022 Fall Workshop in San Diego. The event will be held on November 19 at the Balboa Recital Hall (2130 Pan American Rd W, San Diego, CA 92101) and focus on the theme of “Connecting Sister City Youth with Your Community”. The attendees will enjoy a networking session, information sharing, and educational workshops on establishing internship programs for youth with local businesses, especially Japanese-owned businesses. All California-Japan sister cities stakeholders in your communities are encouraged to attend. Please also invite your colleagues and youths who are interested in building a bridge between your two cities through sister city relationships.

An invitation to this event was sent to each sister city organization already; if you think your sister city organization did not receive the invitation, please contact info@caljapansistercities.org. RSVPs are due by November 14.
